Beginning – Anfang

When preparing a painting I don’t ask myself how to begin. To pose the question presupposes some sort of inhibition. I must free myself of all rationalisations. No goal. No orientation. I just want to paint. What do I want? … No more doubts? I gaze at the vast, empty canvas, it can only happen without preconceptions … I must be patient … cast aside fear … be courageous! I contemplate the risk of failure. Concentration. There must be silence! Finally! My thoughts subside. My brain fires up. I start to paint.

Anfang
Bereite ich ein neues Bild vor, stelle ich mir nicht die Frage, wie soll ich beginnen. Denn stelle ich mir diese Frage, denke ich, eine Hemmung ist vorhanden. Frei will ich von all meinen Gründen sein, ein Bild zu malen. Kein Ziel verfolgen. Keine Orientierung. Ich will einfach anfangen zu malen. Keine konkrete Vorstellung, kein Ergebnis … Will ich mich von Emotionen leiten lassen? Was will ich? Keine Zweifel mehr. Auf eine große, leere Leinwand zu blicken kann nur ohne Vorurteile geschehen. Ich brauche Geduld … keine Angst … nur Mut!
Das Risiko zu scheitern ziehe ich in Betracht. Konzentration. Es muss Stille herrschen! Endlich! Mein Denken ist im Ruhezustand. Mein Gehirn feuert Begeisterung. Jetzt male ich.
