City

Houses collapsing. Towers winding up into the sky. People run without orientation on the streets. Where am I? Daylight blinds me. I stand at the exit of a metro station and look at intersections, bridges, underpasses and overpasses, I see streets swimming in a sea of houses and have to turn away. My mind retreats completely. I see my paintings hanging in the studio. Canvases soaked in colour. I dream of penetrating an unknown mine. I follow tracks, cavities, curves, passages and diversions. I hear the blood pulsing through my body! But the path leads me ever further down. Darkness, strange spaces, fragments, structures, unknown shapes, I no longer recognise anything. Have my thoughts finally gone astray? Lights dance and colours flicker. I must gather my powers, mould and consolidate them, be strong, let something grow from deep inside me, an unflinching will to bear me up, here, where I am. Houses revolve in circles, those below push upwards. Everything I try to grasp dissolves. People rush along crooked sidewalks disorientedly, cars race haphazardly along main roads. Dazzling light reflects in the glittering panes of monumental buildings. The noise of the city, a fierce crackling! Sunbeams from a steel blue sky sting and burn. But I am not led astray! I plough on!
