Colour

Colours mix and gather on the canvas, celebrating a fabulous party! A deep black blotch forces me to stop. Is not it wiser to act calmly, without agitation? I struggle for control and to remain objective. Colours! They work so chaotically against each other! Tone, temperature, texture, tempo, all these elements meeting, falling apart, and colliding again! I lob a handful of paint at the canvas. Am I doing it to disrupt a rigid state? Does it hit the right spot? A correction is necessary. How to find a solution? Individual spots must not dominate the canvas. A composition is a harmonious balance. But harmony is deceptive. I get restless as soon as things quieten down. I continue working until I reach a state that opens up a hitherto unknown perspective. A good composition should never be completely stable, the eye of the beholder should never feel completely secure. My attention must remain on edge. Doubts emerge. My composition breaks apart. I remain calm although my painting teeters close to the abyss. I’ll stop when I reach a crossroads. Just be patient. I pause to contemplate precisely at a point of high intensity. I try to navigate carefully between illumination and the dark pits of my imagination.
