Fog – Nebel

Banks of fog rise in the city, a milky film swallowing up the houses, as if a whole city were gradually disappearing. Observing the fog, I realise I have to sharpen up my perceptions. Producing a painting out of my imagination is a delicate undertaking. The white fog seems to be a premonition of loss, of weakness, of my inability to recognise who I really am. Immersed in doubt, determination and will are my only compass. A painting is a depiction of the state of things, a means of liberating myself from the darkness. Yet I remain a stranger as I plunge into the white fog which embraces whole houses and eventually engulfs the whole city.

In der Stadt ziehen Nebelwolken auf, ein milchiger Dunst, der alle Häuser verschluckt, eine Stadt löst sich auf. Betrachte ich den Nebel, so wird mir klar, ich muss meine Wahrnehmung schärfen. Ein Bild aus meiner Fantasie hervorzubringen und zu entfalten, ist ein zerbrechlicher Vorgang. Der weiße Nebel erscheint mir wie eine Vorahnung von Verlust zu sein, von Schwäche, nicht mehr erkennen zu können, wer ich wirklich bin. In Zweifel getaucht, Entschlossenheit und Wille sind mein einziger Kompass. Ein Bild zu malen, ist eine Zustandsbeschreibung, ein Mittel, mich aus Dunkelheit zu befreien. Doch ich bleibe ein Fremder, als tauche ich in einen weißen Nebel ein, der langsam Häuser umschließt und die ganze Stadt verschlingt.
