Insect

A cold, bright, white stone floor reflects light in the lobby. I’m expected at reception. Hi, how are you? I’m fine! My voice is captured and scanned, like every morning. I‘m in good shape, back in form. I‘m grateful. Peace reigns on earth since the Big Robots took over the world. I walk through the glass revolving door and join the rest of humanity. My six legs propel me through the streets. My life has changed since starting work on the Big House. The BH, or Big Termite Mound, as it’s also called, is only for us humans. We will be very happy there. The Big Robots love us. They look down upon everyone in the Big City from their summit on the Big Mountain. If we work diligently, we can return to our roots and live as insects. We will be relieved of the burden of being human. So I get up cheerfully, take the elevator and answer all the polite questions at reception. Then I scurry off to work.
